Grass Boots Under 13 Soccer

June 17th, 2010

Grass Boots is a local under 13 soccer club located in Cape Town, South Africa.  I was invited to join the team, one Saturday afternoon, for a Braai and Tree Planting.  The majority of the players come from the Bo-Kaap community, a very impoverished and under resourced informal settlement.

Stuart Diamond and Adam Deebo look after this team and the soccer pitch.  The city has leased the soccer pitch to Grass Boots and the team is upgrading and maintaining the facility for the entire community, at their own expense.

I recently got word that a shipping container has been brought to the pitch and the team plans on using it as their club house.  Programs like this are crucial to give these young boys an escape from the reality of their lives, physical fitness and mentorship.

Grass Boots would like to install bleachers at the pitch and are in need of funding for kit, transport and other expenses associated with the team.  If you would like to make a donation to Grass Boots, you can do so at www.fuwl.org/donate.  Please note your donation to Grass Boots.  100% of your donation will go directly to Grass Boots.
